Writing at home!
Here are some fun ways to have your child write at home with you this summer! Talk through what your child wants to say before writing begins. Help support them by drawing a picture of their message first and then writing about it if they can. Writing tip: Stay positive! Kids who are worried about spelling every word correctly will often stick to a small group of words they can spell, or may avoid writing altogether.
• Have your child write instructions for taking care of your pet.
• Write a letter or thank you note to a relative.
• Make a shopping list before going to the grocery store.
• Make a menu for the week
• Keep a “summer journal”
If your student is still learning to write, try having them trace shapes, lines, letters and numbers that you write. They can paint over the lines, color, draw, or trace with their fingers! Sidewalk chalk is great for this as well!
